Many historic clubs require the use of a points style distributor, or even an electronic one, but with conventional centrifugal advance mechanism. Many times these mechanisms are worn and require rebuilding, or at least require modification to the advance curve for racing purposes. Allen Electric made quality distributor analyzers from the 40s right up to 70s. I was lucky to find one of the units manufactured in 1946 (yes that was before I was born). After doing a mechanical and electronic update of the unit, it is now capable of checking advance curves, points resistance and dwell on all points and electronic distributors.
